Artist Statement
I had no personal preconceived ideas from the beginning of this project to its end. It came to me like turning on a light switch in a dark room. The biggest concern I had while working on each piece was to focus on execution. The pieces are identified by the year in which they were created. I created one a year for twelve years. I set limits using only the Christmas Cards my husband and I received within that designated year. In the year 2010 we received more family photos than cards. In 2017, because of the limited number of cards we received I also used the stamps from the envelopes. Each image was to take on the likeness of a portrait. These pieces together became one portrait. Each piece was to be roughly 8”x 10” unframed. After I completed each image I would step back and look to see what was created. I was moved and surprised by what I observed. My hope is that you, in viewing each piece will find something moving and meaningful.
